Boards gilt-ruled with fine chain-tool, beautifully marbled end-papers. Illustrated with three engraved portraits of Napoleon. Barry O'Meara was one of Napoleon's doctors on St. Helena, appointed by the British government. He provides a fascinating first hand account of Napoleon's recollections and attitudes during his captivity. "I spoke little, and listened as attentively as I could, seldom interposing. To my memory I did not entirely trust; immediately on retiring to my chamber and carefully committed to paper the topics of conversation, with so far as I could, the exact words used." .
