Publisher's full gray tweed cloth, gilt lettering on spine and cover. Illustrated with 52 magnificent full-page color reproductions as well as numerous additional drawings, sketches, and plans, all by Chagall. This is a study of Chagall's murals for the foyer of the Metropolitan Opera House and his designs for the set and costumes for the company's production of Mozart's "Die Zauberflote" (The Magic Flute). "The large and strikingly-beautiful illustrations of the murals include preliminary sketches, working sketches, final sketches, and close-up details of the finished works. Sumptuous reproductions of "The Magic Flute" decor range from the opening curtail, "Homage to Mozart," and the curtain for "Queen of the Night," and other scenes, to the eye-popping costumes for Tamino, Papageno, Monostatos, Pamina, and Priests." . The covers and endpapers are lightly sunned along the bottom edge only, not affecting any interior pages or illustrations, all of which are bright and clear.
