Illustrated with 500 full-page, full-color plates by John James Audubon. xxvi pages of tect. Introduction and Descriptive Text by William Vogt. The first 435 plates were originally published by Audubon in London between 1827 and 1838, and a superb set of these "Elephant Folio" plates has been used in making these reproductions. The final 65 plates were painted later by Audubon and were first published by him in an "Octavo" edition between 1840 and 1844 in New York, from which these plates have been reproduced. The volume also includes a Transcript of the Legends on the Original Plates with a Note concerning them; an Index of Common Names in the Present Text and on the Original Plates.. Gilt on spine worn off, covers rubbed, else near fine; unmarked, tight, square, and clean. All 500 of the plates are clean and bright.
