François Pierre Guillaume Guizot (1787 – 1874) was a French historian, orator, and statesman. Guizot was a dominant figure in French politics prior to the Revolution of 1848. A moderate liberal who opposed the attempt by King Charles X to usurp legislative power, he worked to sustain a constitutional monarchy following the July Revolution of 1830. This work, the last of his many literary works, the "Histoire de France racontée à mes petits enfants" was completed in 1870. The history came down to 1789, and was continued to 1870 by his daughter, Madame Guizot de Witt from her father's notes.. Some covers slightly spotted, former owner's name crossed out on feps, a couple of interior hinges just starting, but generally in very good, solid condition.
